Publication Competition for Student Affiliates

NOTE: To participate in the publication competition, you have to be a student affiliate member.

ALSO: You MUST pass the theory test in order to participate in this event.

 

This activity gives you a chance to exercise your writing skills and your musical interests by writing a brief article on a specific topic. You choose from one of two topics:

 

Grades 1-2 (75-300 words)

  • Peter and the Wolf (by Prokofiev)
  • Orchestras

Grades 3-4 (250-550 words)

  • John Phillip Sousa
  • Band Instruments

Grades 5-6 (400-650 words)

  • Johannes Brahms
  • Romantic Operas

Grades 7-8 (500-750 words)

  • Stephen Foster
  • Instruments of the Contemporary Era

Grades 9-10 (600-850 words)

  • Frederic Chopin
  • Orchestral Works of the Romantic Era

Grades 11-12 (700-950)

  • Robert Schumann
  • String Quartets

 

 

FEES: $10 (each for local and also for state judging)

LOCAL DEADLINE: December 3rd, 2007

STATE DEADLINE: January 14th, 2007

 

Each paper is graded for historical accuracy, grammar, and general writing skills.

 

Winners at the state level receive cash awards of $30-$50!
